There are two TMC services in the UK. These are provided by ITIS and by Trafficmaster. Both are run on a commercial basis in conjunction with specific vehicle or navigation system brands.

ITIS launched its UK national TMC service ("iTMC") in January 2002. Since then it has become the leading commercial TMC service with most of the major car manufacturers and leading satellite navigation system providers in the UK.   iTMC is provided under licence directly with its business customers who include:   Vehicle Manufacturers & Brands   Bentley BMW Ford Jaguar Land Rover Lexus Mercedes-Benz Mini Nissan Porsche Renault Saab Subaru Toyota Vauxhall Volkswagen Volvo     Aftermarket Navigation and Mapping   Alpine Blaupunkt Clarion Kenwood Navteq Panasonic Pioneer   Tele Atlas VDO Dayton Zenrin     iTMC is broadcast on a unique and exclusive RDS sub-carrier licence on Classic FM, the UK's only nation FM commercial broadcaster. Trafficmaster is the UK’s leading provider of digital traffic information and intelligent navigation services.  Over the past 15 years, the company has provided traffic data to a wide range of automotive manufacturers, GSM network operators, Motoring Organisations, the UK government & local councils, and direct to end consumers.   Traffic information is collected via Trafficmaster’s unique network of 7500 fixed sensors mounted on the UK Motorway and Trunk Road network.  These sensors measure traffic flow in real time, ensuring that the traffic information generated is of exceptional quality and accuracy.   The sensor based traffic data is also supplemented with incidental data collected in partnership with the RAC, one of the UK’s leading motoring organisations.   Trafficmaster operates a commercial TMC service in the UK, which was launched in 2004.  The service is broadcast within the FM radio spectrum licensed to two of the UK’s leading 2 commercial radio broadcasters, Gcap Media Plc and Chrysalis; who between them provide a broadcast network that delivers national coverage for the Trafficmaster service.   Trafficmaster has signed 8 commercial contracts in 2005 to provide its TMC service making it the UK’s fastest growing TMC supplier.   Trafficmaster’s RDS TMC customers include: Bentley Alpine Audi Destinator Garmin Honda Siemens VDO Garmin Navigon Alpine Wayfinder       JVC                                      For further information please contact tim.owen@trafficmaster.co.uk
