The Norwegian Public Roads Administration (NPRA) has carried out test and pilot broadcasts of a TMC service in the Østfold, Akershus and Oslo areas.

No TMC service has been launched to date. NPRA decided in November 2007 not to launch RDS-TMC in Norway themselves, and to focus effort on improving the quality and availability of road and traffic information and existing end-user services. NPRA will continue to develop and maintain e.g. the TMC Location Table of Norway, to support any external service provider taking the initiative to launch a TMC service. NPRA will reconsider the decision at a later date if no other service provider launches a TMC service in Norway, or if an existing service is of poor quality.

Destia Ltd. will launch a commercial TMC service, using Conditional Access, in Norway during Q2 / 2008 with national coverage. The service will be broadcast on the nationwide P4 radio channel. TMC messages will be broadcast in encrypted mode. Destia uses full encryption according to the ISO 14819:6 standard.
